DAY 10-PARIS TO LONDON: Paris

Here is Lopez' group in front of the Tower.

DAY 10-PARIS TO LONDON: Paris

Our bus stopped at the Troccadero for a photo op. The Eiffel Tower is across the river. This is the best place for a group shot. Here is our bunch.

DAY 10-PARIS TO LONDON: Paris

Before we left Paris, we took a bus sightseeing tour. In front of the Ritz Hotel, there are these planters, made to look like cars, that have a tree in each one.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Paris

On our pre-dinner walking tour, we went to Trafalgar Square. This is the new sculpture on the changing display. It changes several times a year. Not sure what it means. Lord Nelson's column is behind it.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Paris

On top of the tower were graffeti covered signs, Gosh, guess I must have been here before!

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Paris

We made it to the top, albeit after dark. Here is Robert at the top of the tower with the lights of Paris, and a full moon behind him.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Paris

Just before going up, we looked way up the Eiffel Tower. This was after we had eaten dinner, and taken the Seine River cruise.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Paris

Jeffery, our tour director, was being very happy, because Spain won their football match in the World Cup tournament.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Versailles

Here is a bunch of the rest of us, in the gate shade, waiting for the bus.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Versailles

Here is much of Cara's group waiting in the shade for the late bus. It was still hot!

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Versailles

We decided to get a quick lunch, so we sat almost on the curb. If we had known the bus was going to be late again, we could have had a proper sit down lunch.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Versailles

Here is Robert in front of the upper gate,. showing the newly refurbished "gold" color. Look behind him and you can just see the new gold on the buildings.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Versailles

Here we are in the parking lot of Versailles, by the lower gate, with the actual palace in the background.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Paris

After the Louvre, we were to meet the guide & the bus for Versailles near this interestingly designed Metro Station. The guide was on time, the bus was late.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Paris

This is the 3 graces plus Justine also not on the to 4 or 5. Others would be the Moaning Lisa, and Hamurabi's Code Stela, but I did not get pics of them.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Paris

This one is not on the big 4 or 5 to see, but I thought I looked good in front of Persian sculpture.

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Paris

Another is the Winged Victory of Samos'

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Paris

When at the Louvre for a short time, you go see 3 or 4 things. Here is 1, the Venus de Milo.I guess in the old days, you had to pay extra for arms! (Maybe there is a museum somewhere that has the Arms de Milo!)

DAY 9- PARIS AND VERSAILLES:Paris

In the Louvre, it was interesting to stand where Tom Hanks had stood in the De Vinci Code. Under the pyramid!

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS: Paris

We had a good hour or so on Montmartre, buying tourist stuff, watching the tourists, eating interesting food, and Justine had her portrait drawn. It looked lovely. We took the funicular train up the hill, but walked down. Here they are, waiting for slow old me.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS: Paris

It was night, so the photo is not good, but it looks prettier close up. This is Sacre Clour on top of Montmartre

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS: Paris

Here is our group at Notre Dame. We left there for Montmartre.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS: Paris

After dinner on our first night in Paris, we did a bit of a walking tour. Here is the Paris City Hall (Hotel de Ville), with a large portrait of De Gaulle, made up of many smaller pictures.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS: Paris

Someone in the part of Paris where our hotel is, thought blue smurf snails would look good on this bridge.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS: Chartres

Our meeting spot in Chartres after lunch, was by this statue. Some of us got there early.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS: Chartres

I believe this is in Chartres, while Robert & I were wandering around looking for lunch. This is almost a copy of of ManikinPis in Brussels.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS: Chartres

This is Robert standing beside the side of that previous door at the side of Chartres cathedral.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS: Chartres

These are the carvings above the side door of the cathedral. The front door way was being cleaned, and this side is almost more beautiful.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS: Chartres

Near where we parked the bus, we found this example of municipal art!

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS: Chartres

Our 3rd stop was Chartres, to see the cathedral & get lunch. Here is a distant view of the cathedral. It is too big to get a good close up shot. You will see pieces, here.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS

Robert always takes a good picture. Here at Chambord.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS

I wanted a photo of Eijaz, so that Karim could see how much fun his son was having! He swears he is having fun!

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS

Travis, Lopez, & I at Chamborg.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS

This is Susan's group, from Perquimans HS near Elizabeth City, NC. They are seem at Chamborg. Nice bunch of people.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS

Here is a group photo of the Durham group, even me, at Chamborg.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS

Day 8, Thursday, was a busy day. After Chenonceau, we went by Chambord, where we had a photo op, had a pee break, and then went on. Here is the Chateau, without any tourists in front 0of it.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS

In the courtyard of the snack area at Chenonceau, is an awning, and this time I noticed that it is held up with medieval jousting lances. Jeffrey is standing between them.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS

Chenonceau has 2 main gardens, one which is a regular old French geometric garden, and one that has flowers. this is the one with flowers.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS

The guys thought they had to knock at the guard house ion order to get in, but no one was home.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS

Of course, we had a photo op for our group at Chenonceau, just in front, in the entry walk.

DAY 8- LOIRE VALLEY TO PARIS

We saw 2 chateaux on day 8. We toured one, and look at another. The one we toured was Chenonceau, which was built by the mistress & the wife of one of the french kings. It is built out over a river. Here is Lopez standing up from the entrance. You can see that part of it is covered up, and they are working on it.

DAY 7: HEADING FOR THE LOIRE VALLEY, IN TOURS!

On Day 7, we spent the night just outside Tours, which is the gateway to the Loire Valley, but we ate downtown, in a little pub/restaurant that I have eaten in before, with sort of a history theme. They have a small copy of the Spirit of St. louis hanging in their upstairs dining room. Here we are.

DAY 7: HEADING FOR THE LOIRE VALLEY, IN POITIERS!

Everything we did in Poitiers, which really is a smaller city, was done in and around a square that is just behind the main cathedral. Here we are eating lunch at a little sidewalk pizza place. Some of my gang plus Lopez are sitting at the table. Pretty good food, and great company!

DAY 7: HEADING FOR THE LOIRE VALLEY, IN POITIERS!

Poitiers has a little university. Do not know why I say little, but it seems to occupy 2 buildings across from the church. This is the central courtyard.

DAY 7: HEADING FOR THE LOIRE VALLEY, IN POITIERS!

Robert & I explored the church, and I got a good photo of this really great wood-carving.

DAY 7: HEADING FOR THE LOIRE VALLEY, IN POITIERS!

Poitiers is one of those French towns that I had never before visited. We had no idea what was there, but we found this lovely little Romanesque church there. Beautiful!

DAY 7: HEADING FOR THE LOIRE VALLEY VIA POITIERS!

At the truck stop, Jeffery spends time watching 0over things, and considering his plan for the next leg of our journey. This is the last photo of this truck stop interlude.
